Contact Lys sans Frontières for more tourist information on the Lys Valley.
Lys sans Frontières is a type of non-profit association, which was created in 2002 by the elected representatives of the towns and villages of the Lys.
Currently, Lys sans Frontières brings together 125 towns/villages with the objective of developing and promoting tourism and recreational activities, managing the network and facilitating the marketing of tourist products on a Euro-regional scale.
In the area of cross-border cooperation, the Lys was the original focus of the vast and ambitious cross-border cooperation development project - Interreg IV - that was started ten years ago, in a joint venture with Toerisme Leiestreek and the Franco-Belgian cross-border entrepreneur-operators. The Lys sans Frontières association coordinates the projects on the Nord-Pas-de-Calais side.
In the area of touristic engineering, the Lys sans Frontières association forms a link between the local authorities and the partners, in order to implement a consistent touristic development scheme focused on hiking, inland waterway tourism, the promotion of heritage sites and fine food. Lys sans Frontières provides assistance to the local authorities in setting up their development projects and raising funds. It participates in the steering committees and studies, in order to develop synergies across the region. Its ambition: pooling resources, promoting the region's assets, as well as the private and public initiatives.
In the area of promotions and communication, Lys sans Frontières is working closely with the tourist information offices of the region, to promote the Lys Valley, using a variety of communication tools (website, 'La Lys en roue' bicycle-guide', 'tourist guide', 'La Lys in Wonderland', brochures dealing with recreational or gastronomic subjects, creation of 'turnkey' tourist products), and participate in shows dealing with hiking and inland waterway tourism.
With the aim of invigorating the network, the 'Fêtes de la Lys' (Lys festival) attracts 30,000 visitors to the banks of the Lys every year.
Organised with the towns and villages of the Lys area, these festivities are one of the most important events for the Euro-regional population, based on river activities run by the local associations and a large number of volunteers.
In the area of alternative accommodation, Lys sans Frontières is joining forces with the towns and villages to develop a network of Eco-lodge villages situated close to the footpaths and inland waterway tourism facilities.
These wood frame huts, built on stilts, provide luxury sleeping accommodation for four people as well as an eating area. They allow visitors to link up various foot paths and cycle paths throughout the region.
With the wheelchair access provided, they also offer an excellent quality standard at a very attractive price, allowing holidaymakers to enjoy the local leisure activities to their hearts' content! (Online booking with secure payment)
